Protect what's yours, make a choice! #makeachoice #bresponsible

You can bet that your landlord has protected themselves against risk, have you? Replacing your possessions might not sound expensive, but it can add up quick. Think about loosing everything to an unexpected fire, or worse yet, someone burglarizes your place while you're away from home. Renters insurance, in most cases could help ease the burden of getting your life back on track after an unexpected event. Renters insurance gives you a peace of mind from damage or theft, both in and away from your place. It also provides coverage against liability, forgery and more.

Here's some examples:

ex> John comes over to your apartment for a night of Netflix and chill. He trips and injures himself while at your place. Renters insurance may help with Johns' medical cost, up to policy limits (of course) regardless of who was at fault. (guest medical)

ex 2> There's a fire at your place and luckily, your particular unit did not catch on fire. However, your personal items are ruined due to all the smoke and water from the fire-fighters putting out the fire. To make matters worse, your entire building has been deemed unlivable until repairs have been made. Have no fear, renters insurance could help with a lot of cost that you will encumber, such as having to find another place to live (additional living expenses), you will have to have someone professionally clean your stuff to eliminate that horrible, pungent smoke smell that is now clearly evident in all your clothing, furniture as well as your curtains and drapes. (fire and water damage restoration)

ex 3> You're out shopping for the holidays, you are really in the spirit and while you're in the store, someone has stolen your car with all of your newly purchased gifts. No problem, you have auto insurance so you're going to be okay. Right? - No, you're dead wrong. There's no coverage in an auto policy for your personal items. This is where renters insurance could offer protection up to your policy limits for all of your personal items. (contents coverage)

Part of being a responsible adult is understanding that life is categorically placed in two separate buckets - wants & needs. (there are no in between) Have you ever watched the news and saw where there was an apartment fire and seen all of these displaced individuals, that within the blink of an eye, had their lives turned upside down and in many cases at no fault of their own? My heart sinks at the mere thought of this. I often ask myself, did they have insurance in place? If not, why? Did they not know about it? Do they think that it's too expensive? Can they not afford it? Why don't all landlords make it a requirement? Did those who don't have it and do know about it, simple feel as though it's something that's not important? How do you feel? What do think? Which bucket of life would you place this type of coverage in, wants or needs? What constitutes a need vs a want, in your thought process?
